Esel is an Eastern European immigrant and resident of Chamberfield. She, her husband Ehab, and her daughter, Esther, recently settled in Chamberfield. They live in an old colonial house in want of repairs, but hope for a quieter life than their former home in the city. The couple have one elder son who stayed behind in Europe when they emigrated. Esel knows very little English, but still tries to be friendly and hospitable with her guests.
