Charles is a resident of Chamberfield. He is the husband of Gloriana and father of their three daughters, Abigail, Audrey, and Louise. He is a business cat within the manufacturing industry, commuting for work by train to Lanchester. As a result, he is often away for long periods of time, leaving early in the morning and returning late at night. Charles maintains a stoic appearance but can be affectionate toward his kits.

- He is based on the German Rex cat breed.
- Charles is incredibly difficult to write. Because of the point-of-view of the story, he is not often present, which makes his personality appear more shallow than other characters.
- His name is an unapologetic reference to Charlie Brown, whom I dearly love.
- Moreover, Charles’ first name was chosen after the surname Brown was picked for the family. In attempting to create an old American atmosphere, I identified ‘Brown’ as the most American-sounding surname.
