Make Mine MelodiesThe Picnic

Nolan is a freelance musician and head of a band consisting of himself as vocalist and pianist, Eddie Molloy on the trumpet, Betty Hansen on the clarinet, and Homer Bailey on the fiddle. He was formerly a ship-cat and is the husband of Chamberfield schoolteacher Maribelle with whom he has one son, Carlos.

Frequently getting into hot water due to his penchant for staying out late in the city, Nolan is childishly oblivious to how his behavior affects his wife, much to the fury of her best friend, Abigail. Still, Nolan thinks they can all get along if the others only loosen up a little.

Quotes

“There I was, hearkening to the call of adventure, scrubbing the deck of our ship upon the great Sargasso Sea, when all of a sudden the ground heaved upwards and my sponge was thrust from my paws. We fell in a crash of sea-foam and I saw beneath us the back of a great black whale, passing right under my whiskers.”
Nolan telling stories of his past to the kittens in Chapter 3: Make Mine Melodies

“That may be true. But pardon me when I say, I still can’t believe such a kind, beautiful cat like you would look twice at a scrap of fur like me.”
